There is no border in the music of Prague-based trio Cartonnage. All styles, all influences are being boiled in one big pot. Pinch of film music, nip of contemporary electronica and pat of jazz harmony. Band keyboardist Aleš Hyvnar tends to use old synthesizers and various bubblin samples, so the sound of Cartonnage may remind you of the 80´s, some songs also evoke 20´s cabaret music, especially when Vanda, the only women of the group, is singing in the upper register. The title of the album – "Curiously connected" – is really suitable to the philosophy of Cartonnage and this multi-genre minibigband seems to be the new leader of Czech club scene. // Jan Kyncl
