When Sarah Assbring started to work on her sophomore album as El Perro del Mar, her original idea was to make the whole album as one piece instead of several songs. A grand idea which proved hard to realise, and in the end "From The Valley To The Stars" became a pop album with traditional structure. This development was probably for the better since Assbring is brilliant composer of sweet yet sharp and naive yet thougtful pop songs.

But "From The Valley To The Stars" is still a tightly knitted unit, a concept album with a theme infinite yet simple as life itself; heaven. Assbring contemplates the big questions; love, grief and loss, solace and hope, despair and euphoria. And she does it in the form of delicate and accessible tunes where you can hear glimpses of twee, girlgroups and the Beach Boys. Intriguing indeed. // Lars Jämtelid
