"My sister Grenadine" is the solo-projekt of Vincent Kokot, a singer/songwriter from Berlin. His debut-album "Shine in the dark" is like a dark forest. The musicians guitar and voice bond to a grim and execrated thicket, where you don´t even know why you got in there and how to get out of it. You think it is the wrong place and try to find a way out of these strummed guitar-moll-chords and this fragile and depressed voice. But the more you try to find your way out, the more you get stuck in the dark forest. Finally you get tired and lay down on the soft, mossy ground. Suddenly the trees begin to move, leafs start to rustle, they open up and point the way. A path opens up, there is a light at the end of the tunnel of leafs and you instantly know: there is luck. And when you got to this point "Shine in the dark" starts to make sense, now the album-title could not be more matching. The firstly confusing thicket of guitar and voice, Vincent Kokot designs his very own understanding of singer/songwriter songs, that do not follow a typical song structure, forms to a big and clear picture. // mic / tamara
