Peterlicht is from a very special kind of artist. His biggest song was "Sonnendeck" ("sunshine roof"), an underground hit from his 2001 album "Vierzehn Lieder" ("fourteen songs"). PeterLicht hasn’t got a biography, he only writes abstract texts, apparently without personal sources, pictures of his face are rare and without his art he assumingly wouldn’t be there at all.
"Melancholie und Gesellschaft" ("melancholy and society") is his fourth record and a straight piece of pop music, with a piano and without experiments. Friendly and easy-going melancholy meets extracts of our society. A thoughtful, quiet voice sings wise texts about what moves us, who we are and what we do, what we (don’t) like.
It’s a clever approach to sound the music soft and sometimes even banal, therewith you can open for the observations of a thoughtful member of society. That way it gets easier to think about the sung.
A very beautiful album.
