ReDeYe. It’s the story of a cow-boy who one day fell down on the ground because of too much listening to Leonard Cohen or Silver Jews. He was just next to his chimney, when the white, accomplice smoke forgives you some tears on the cheek. When he doesn’t play with Dahlia, Guillaume Fresneau writes some dark lyrics with his blood ink. Not shaved, red-eyed, he had been awake for a while, trying to push away the anxiety and the fear of the Evil night. Most would have survived until the dawn with some crumpled, haggard, and dirty songs. But not Fresneau. Even six feet under, even playing lo-fi, he finds just like Elliott Smith or Chris Garneau the vital resources to write prodigal melodies (Gracious, Harm). As he grew up in Texas, he surely must have been taught by Townes Van Zandt or Steve Earle a good way to life.
