The Rhythm Junks The Rhythm Junks is the newest project with Steven De bruyn, one of Europe’s most talented harmonica players. In the past De bruyn was most known as the creative brain behind El Fish, a legendary bluesrock formation from Leuven. With The Rhythm Junks, he doesn’t only import bluesy elements but also uses more laidback reggae rhythms. The brass section finishes the job by playing some of the most funky tunes known to men. But De bruyn hasn’t forgotten his roots: the song ‘Best Kept Secret’ could be best described as the musical equivalent of a steam train at full speed with members of TV On The Radio aboard. Also check out the cover ‘Moskow Diskow’, originally by Belgian electronics pioneers Telex. ‘Pop Off’ is the second album of a roots band that deserves to get some acknowledgment outside the Belgian borders. Check it out now. // Jeroen Michiel
