Since they started, in 1996, Verdena always showed to be inspired by two giants of the grunge era: Nirvana and Dinosour Jr. Not only was the sound influenced by these bands, but also the approach with the audience was similar, with harsh and catcy pieces that found an audience beyond the underground one they were supposed to reach. While still being influenced by Nirvana, Verdena’s fourth album, Requiem, displays a wider range of sounds especially in the two lenghty space rock suites (“Il Gulliver” and “Sotto prescrizione del dott. Huxley”) and in two/three semi-acoustic numbers filled with exotic flavours and sound effects. Part of the merit has to be ascribed to producer/engeneer Mauro Pagani, but “Non prendere l’acme Eugenio” alone shows how much Verdena have grown as composers and music listeners.
